Emma bounced up Grandma's porch steps. She loved visiting Grandma's house!
'There's my garden helper!' Grandma said, opening her arms wide. Emma ran into the biggest hug.
'I have a special surprise for you today,' Grandma whispered. 'We're going to plant your very own seeds!'
'My very own seeds?!' Emma squealed. She had always wanted to grow something!
Grandma took Emma's hand and led her to the garden. Emma skipped the whole way!
Emma gasped. The garden was full of colors! Red tomatoes, yellow sunflowers, green leaves everywhere!
'Everything here started as a tiny seed,' Grandma said. 'Just like the ones we'll plant today.'

They went to the little shed to get supplies. Grandma picked out some special seed packets.
'Carrots, sunflowers, or tomatoes?' Grandma asked. Emma chose the sunflower seeds right away!
'Sunflowers are my favorite!' Emma said. They were big and yellow, just like her dress!
'Here's a perfect spot,' Grandma said, 'right next to the other sunflowers.'
Emma dug a little hole in the soft, dark dirt. It was squishy between her fingers!

Emma looked at the tiny seed in her hand. It was SO small! How could this become a big flower?
'Big things grow from small beginnings,' Grandma said softly. 'But they need time and patience.'
Very carefully, Emma placed her seed into the hole. 'Goodnight, little seed,' she whispered.
Emma covered the seed with soft dirt and patted it gently. 'There you go!'
Then Emma watered her seed. 'Drink up!' she told it. Grandma smiled proudly.
'When will my flower grow?' Emma asked excitedly. 'Tomorrow? Can we check tomorrow?'

Grandma chuckled softly. 'Not quite that fast, sweetheart. Growing takes patience.'
Emma's shoulders drooped a little. Waiting was SO hard!
'I promise,' Grandma said, 'if you're patient and take good care of it, something wonderful will happen.'
Three days later, Emma checked her spot. Nothing yet! Just dirt.
Emma watered it anyway, just like Grandma taught her. 'Please grow,' she whispered.
A whole week passed. Emma stared at the empty dirt. Maybe her seed was broken?

'Trust the seed,' Grandma said gently. 'It's working hard under the dirt, even if you can't see it yet.'
Deep in the dark soil, something WAS happening. The little seed had cracked open, and tiny roots were growing!
Then one morning... Emma looked and GASPED!
A tiny green sprout was poking out of the dirt! Her seed was growing!
'GRANDMA!' Emma shouted. 'IT'S GROWING! MY SEED IS GROWING!'
Grandma came to look. 'You did it!' she said proudly. 'Your patience paid off!'

Every day, Emma visited her sprout. She watered it, talked to it, and watched it grow taller.
The little sprout grew into a strong stem with big green leaves. Emma couldn't believe it!
'Look, Grandma!' Emma pointed. A round green bud had appeared at the very top!
The bud got bigger and bigger. Emma could see yellow peeking through. Almost there!
One beautiful morning, Emma ran to her garden and saw something magical!

There it was - a big, beautiful, bright yellow sunflower! HER sunflower!
'You grew this,' Grandma said, hugging Emma tight. 'You were patient, and look what happened!'
'Good things take time,' Grandma said softly. 'The best things are worth waiting for.'
Emma nodded. Waiting HAD been hard. But now she understood - some things need time to become beautiful.
And every time Emma felt impatient about anything, she remembered her sunflower - and smiled.
