The Treehouse Team

Sam and his family had just moved to a new neighborhood. Everything looked different here. He didn't know anyone yet.

Sam looked over at the house next door. He could hear kids laughing somewhere nearby. It made him feel even more alone.

Next door, Jack, Mia, and Ben were having the best summer ever! They had the coolest treehouse in the whole neighborhood.

'Come on up!' Jack called to his friends. The Treehouse Team was ready for another adventure!

Inside the treehouse, they had everything they needed. Bean bags, snacks, and plans for adventures!

'What should we do today?' Jack asked, spreading out their adventure map. Mia and Ben leaned in excitedly.

Mia looked out the window. 'Hey guys,' she said quietly. 'Look at that kid next door.'

There was Sam, sitting all by himself. He had no one to play with.

Jack, Mia, and Ben all crowded at the window. They watched Sam sitting there, all alone.

'He looks really sad,' said Ben, adjusting his glasses. 'I remember feeling that way when I was new here.'

'What if we invite him to play?' Mia suggested, her eyes lighting up.

Jack crossed his arms. 'But this is OUR treehouse,' he said slowly. 'OUR secret club.'

'Remember when I was new?' Ben said softly. 'You invited me up here. That's how we became friends.'

Jack thought about that. Ben had been lonely too, until they became friends. His face softened.

'You're right,' Jack said with a big smile. 'Let's go invite him!' Mia and Ben cheered.

The three friends climbed down the rope ladder as fast as they could. They had a mission!

Jack, Mia, and Ben walked up to the fence. Sam looked up, surprised to see them.

'Hey! I'm Jack!' Jack called over the fence with a friendly wave. 'Are you the new kid?'

'I'm Sam,' he said quietly. 'We just moved here yesterday.' His voice was small and shy.

'Do you want to see our treehouse?' Jack asked. 'We're the Treehouse Team, and we could use a new member!'

Sam's whole face lit up like sunshine. 'Really? You want ME to join?' He couldn't believe it!

'Come on!' Mia laughed, reaching out her hand. 'The fence has a gate right over there!'

Sam walked through the gate into Jack's backyard. It was amazing! And there was the treehouse!

Sam looked up at the treehouse with wide eyes. 'Wow!' he whispered. 'This is the coolest thing ever!'

'You can do it!' Jack encouraged from below as Sam climbed up. 'Hold on tight!'

Sam climbed inside and gasped. 'Welcome to the Treehouse Team headquarters!' Jack announced proudly.

'I drew all these maps,' Mia said, showing Sam the walls covered in colorful drawings. 'For our adventures!'

'Do you like comics?' Ben asked shyly, holding up his favorites. Sam's eyes lit up. 'I LOVE comics!'

'We have an extra bean bag!' Jack said, pulling out a yellow one. 'This can be yours!'

Sam plopped down on the yellow bean bag. It was so comfy! He finally had a place where he belonged.

Now the Treehouse Team had four members! Jack, Mia, Ben, and their new friend Sam.

They shared snacks and stories. Sam told them about his old home, and they told him about their favorite adventures.

'Jack! Time for lemonade!' his mom called from below. The kids all looked at each other excitedly.

The whole team climbed down the rope ladder together. Sam was getting better at it already!

Jack's mom brought out cold lemonade for everyone. 'And who's this new friend?' she asked with a warm smile.

'This is Sam! He just moved in next door!' Jack said proudly. 'He's our newest team member!'

'I'm so proud of you all,' Mom said. 'Making someone feel welcome is one of the kindest things you can do.'

Sam felt warm inside - not just from the sunshine. He had found real friends on his very first day!

The four friends huddled together in a big group hug. The Treehouse Team was now complete!

'Same time tomorrow?' Jack called out. 'THE TREEHOUSE TEAM FOREVER!' they all shouted together.

Sam walked home with the biggest smile. This new neighborhood was going to be wonderful!

And in the treehouse, there was now a yellow bean bag right next to the others. A place for everyone. That's what friends are for.
